Investing experience

I have read dozens of books on investing and have painstakingly maintained charts and followed economic and business news. I have invested in the market from time to time with moderate success. Because of these experiences, I believe I have some understanding of how the market behaves.

Site design experience

I have designed a commercial Web site, Basic Homes, with a style similar to this site. Basic Homes was profitable for a few years. I shut down the site after a sharp decline in sales, but have republished it as a non-commercial site.

About this site

Appearance

The Web site has been designed for fast loading, easy navigation, and good legibility. I have also attempted, by using just simple HTML and a simple style sheet, to make the site appear almost the same to the vast majority of visitors, independent of the browser used or the display size.

The content of each page is displayed inside a single-celled table. Most pages have a table width of 620 pixels, including side margins of 10 pixels each, so that no horizontal scrolling is required even if the display is set to a width of only 640 pixels. The table makes it possible to center the content on the screen, have the content width independent of screen resolution, and contrast the content background color with the screen background color.

Pages were sometimes created from scratch, but usually were created by copying and editing an existing page with the text editor or word processor that came with the operating system. These utilities have limited editing capabilites, but can save a document as a text file without changing the filename extension.

A full featured word processor was used to check grammar and spelling, and to help in the selection of words.

Identical changes on multiple pages, such as correcting a systematic error or changing an address, were made with a utility program that can process multiple files simultaneously.
